How we score deals
We only post deals we'd tell a friend about. The score tells you how good each one is, from “nice little win” to “drop everything.” It rates the deal, not the product.
Who sets the score
A person sets every score by hand when the deal is posted. Nothing is calculated by a bot. We look mostly at how good the price is compared with what the item normally sells for, then at how useful the product is for the people it's meant for. A big percentage off a price nobody ever paid doesn't score high just for the percentage. Everything we post is worth a look; the score just tells you how fast to move.
What the numbers mean
| Score | Label | In plain words |
|---|---|---|
| 9 to 10 | Insane Deal | Drop everything. These don't come around often. |
| 8 to 8.9 | Great Deal | A clearly better price than usual. Easy yes. |
| 6 to 7.9 | Solid Deal | A good price on something worth having. |
| 4 to 5.9 | Good Deal | A nice little discount. Grab it if it's on your list. |
| Under 4 | Decent Deal | Small savings, but savings. Beats paying full price. |
How scores affect what you see
The Hot sort starts each deal with its score, then adds a point for every click to the store in the last 48 hours. So a deal people are actually grabbing can rise above a higher-scored one. Deals without a score show “Not scored” and start in the middle.
The Crowd Score
Our Score is the editor's verdict on the price. The Crowd Score is yours. Every deal has a “Worth it?” vote: Score! for thumbs up, Meh for thumbs down. Once a deal has at least 10 votes, it shows the share of readers who gave it a thumbs up. Deals readers love can earn a “Crowd favorite” tag. Votes nudge the Hot sort a little, but never change our Score.
We never vote on our own deals, and we never hide or remove thumbs-down votes. One vote per deal per browser, and you can change your mind anytime.
What the score isn't
It isn't a review. We check the store listing and the price; we only say we tested something if we actually did. Prices and availability can change, so check the retailer before buying. Some links earn us a commission, and that never changes a score. How we make money
